     WWW (World wide web).



 







Internet provides the technology by which world wide different computers & computer like devices can be connected to each other.

 On internet, people now are able to share different types of contents using HTML.

- Hence, internet also provides a network of such interconnected online content/data as WWW.

WWW – World Wide Web is one such network of interconnected online content which includes Web pages, pictures, videos, etc.

- The term WWW refers to all the interlinked HTML pages that can be accessed over the Internet.

- The World Wide Web was originally designed in 1991 by Tim Berners-Lee.

-This WWW provides a common platform where different internet resources like web pages, audio, videos, games, software can be accessed and shared.

- every resource on internet is identified and accessed by uniform name or address which is called as URL.


    URL Concept 

- As internet provides very large number of resources of different types including web pages, games, software, movies, etc.

-  to access each such resource a proper address is required so that it can be accessed in same way from any part of the world.

-  for this internet and WWW uses the URL for each such resource.

- The URL for any resource alternatively also called as Web Address.

- URL is resource accessing technique on internet which specifies:

ü  Location of resource on network &

ü  Mechanism to access the resource.

 

-   The concept of URL was suggested by Tim-Berner Lee and IETF in the year 1994 and added in RFC.

-  A valid URL consist of following components:

 

ü  The protocol used to access the resource.

ü  The location of server(IP address or name)

ü  Port number

ü  Location of the resource in the directory structure on server

e.g. https://192.168.10.200:8090/httpclient.html
